Welcome to Tiny Talk West Notts.
My name is Laura and
I am your Tiny Talk Baby & Toddler teacher for NG8 and NG9 currently running in Aspley, Beeston, Wollaton, Stapleford and Toton areas. My son was born September 2018 and we have been signing together since he was 6 months old.
Arthur is my only child and parenthood was very new to me so I found Tiny Talk to be invaluable. It was somewhere for me where I could make friends, engage and communicate with Arthur and get a snapshot into what he was thinking.
I joined Tiny Talk baby signing when my son was around 6 months old on a recommendation from a friend and haven't looked back since. I really feel that is has helped my son to communicate and also helped me and my family to communicate back to him. I’ll never forget the immense proudness I felt when he did his first sign, and I still feel this every time he learns a new sign or word, which is most days now! His favourite sign has always been Duck and it was one of his first signs as well. He’s still obsessed with them now!
I’ve also found that signing has helped me to avoid tantrums and to get some insight into his likes and dislikes. I remember taking him to the park and he was getting so excited and I wasn’t sure why. Then I noticed he was signing bird! It was so exciting to be able to understand what was making him so happy!
Our baby sign classes are suitable from birth to around 24 months and Toddler classes are from around 18months to school age. A large part of our classes is using songs and sensory equipment to help stimulate your little one and aid their development. We teach core signs every week and also have a large range of sensory activities which can include flashing balls, bubbles and musical instruments. All of the activities we do are easily recreated at home so I always found that the classes gave me ideas of what my son liked so I could do the activities at home with him. Social time is so important for our mental health so our in person classes have 20-30 mins of this which includes toys to play with, a drink and a biscuit.

Meet my Mini Teacher,
Ellie Harwood
Hi, my name's Ellie. I started signing with my daughter when she was 9 months old and thought it was magic! She loved it and has been such a great communicator ever since. I thought "I must let everyone else know about this" so I started teaching. I've since had another child, Leo, and I can't wait to get back to sharing this amazing skill with other families.
